The Saskatchewan First Nations Natural Resource Centre of Excellence (Centre of Excellence) works with First Nation communities across Saskatchewan to create opportunities for the innovative, sustainable, and environmentally responsible development of natural resources within their lands and Indigenous territories.
The Centre of Excellence supports Indigenous communities seeking ways to benefit from—and play an active role in—opportunities in the Mining, Forestry, and Energy (hydro, oil and gas, renewable) sectors. It does this in many ways, including ensuring joint ventures and resource agreements are effectively structured and managed; providing independent technical, financial, legal, and managerial expertise; establishing equity participation in major resource development; fostering employment development opportunities; and supporting the creation of community development plans and land management strategies.
The Centre of Excellence also works to support initiatives that engage more Indigenous people in business, educational and employment programs within the Resource/Energy sectors. EXPORT, developed by the Centre of Excellence, is an online skills inventory and business registration database that makes information about the human and business assets of First Nation communities easily accessible to non-reserve locations.
